Dissemination of the training course "Your Game"

YOUR GAME "Youth Work is a Serious Game" How to use andc reate educational games for they youth sector, especially to foment active participation of youth.

This training Course took place this August in Florence. After the project Panagos, a greek participant, did an amazing dissemination as he explains below.

Dissemination Task

Unigo Innovativation Project

Last Sunday, on 29th of September, I organized a meeting with 6 students of University of Patras, all members of the students’ volunteer organization of Patras University under the name of Ethexis and I presented them the outcomes but also my useful experience of TC “Youth Work is a Serious Game” that took place in Florence from 30th of August till the 6th of September.

My audience was multidisciplinary and included students of the 2nd and 3rd year of their studies in schools of Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics and Science of Materials but all of them had a special interest for computer and mobile games.

Students shared feelings of enthusiasm about the practices and the training experience that was presented to them and we explored ways about how they could incorporate this experience in their youth organization as well.

Additionally on the occasion of an innovation competition taking place at their university, I took the initiative to involve my experience and knowledge from the Training Course and suggested them to create a mobile app, using a board game, so as to help 1st year students as well as the majority of students firstly to better incorporate to the environment of the university, but also navigate themselves easier to the premises of the campus.

Each student could create his own avatar with a selection of special features but also, after open discussion we decided to adopt rewards and avatar features that promoted a healthier but also an environmentally healthy attitude for the students, if a student would choose to walk, use the bus or did some carpooling.

Additionally, on the basis of PokemonGo app, we thought of installing some artistic features with a QR code that students could scan with their cell phone as a competition. This feature would stimulate students’ skills of observance but also cooperation and team building if these competitions were decided to be organized in a larger scale.

Not forget to mention that students highlighted the need to have a functional board on announcements for university activities and rewards, such as special discounts for university’s concerts and perfomances for students that actively participated in them so as to promote and upgrade campus social life.

At last we focused on the need that this board game app, would have a strong code of ethics and would not tolerate any kind of racism or bullying among its members.

I am very excited that I had the opportunity to share my experience and knowledge from TC “Youth Work is a Serious Game” in such a productive way and from the warm welcoming that students gave to the knowledge and experience that I shared with them.

If we manage to develop this board game app that is really innovative for Greek universities, we aim to firstly respond to an audience of 35-40.000 students of Patras university that multiply during the period of Patras carnival, since more students and other people would like to be informed about the activities taking place in the local university.

If the board game is a success for the local university we aim to develop it for other Greek universities, so you could imagine how useful but also successful this app could be and we will owe this success to the knowledge and experience that we had received from your TC.

With the best regards,

Panagiotis Spyropoulos
